Sunday 7th August 2005 will be remembered in cricketing anals for many years to come.

An incredibly tense ashes victory for England was quickly followed by a stunning Jesters victory over Colton in front of a capacity crowd at the sports club and social institute.

The day was however marred by a particularly nasty injury sustained by Colton player Dave Wright who required hospital treatment having been hit in the face by the ball.

Our best wishes go out to Dave hoping he makes a full and speedy recovery.

SID DEPARTSOn paper the Jesters arrived with a strong side however things are often different on grass.

An early blow was suffered when Steve "sydney" Gower was forced to leave the fray with a mystery stomach bug.

Undeterred Belly negotiated the toss and elected to bat as usual.

The Jesters made a reasonable start with a good stand from the openers however after they departed the runs dried up and wickets fell steadily.

Jesters found themselves at Seventy Something for Seven and staring both defeat and embarrassment in the face.

Colton took the opportunity to give their younger bowlers extended spells and the experience of Neil Waite and tenacity of part time batter James Hill saw the Jester through the final 23 overs reaching a respectable total of 197 and giving this writer the worst case of pad-rash in his long and distinguished career.

Now the Bar-B-Que. Unable to resist the aroma many jesters, despite having to field next, opted for the large "mixed grill" option especially those with a Huddersfield persuasion. This meant the bowling became unbalanced and the fielding somewhat lethargic.

Colton started slowly and lost two early wickets. They soon rallied and facing an intense procession of huff-n'-puffer after huff-n'-puffer found themselves on target at the halfway stage.

Finally as unknown passers bye even turned down the requests to bowl skipper Bell finally, even reluctantly turned to the Spin Partnership of Scott and Waite.

Assisted by Steve Wilkinson the spin twins mopped up the final seven wickets  and victory was gained.

Jesters were happy to be part of a full charity day in which funds were being raised for cancer research and look forward to returning to Colton next year.
