report by POD

A local fixture for many of the Jesters brought us to Idle CC, now languishing in the lower where's everyone else?echelons of the Bradford league. Gone are the times when numerous Jesters picked up pin money for turning outthe brains trust! here, as the cricket and social sections of the club are run independently of each other, and the money that the mobile masts bring, is used to subsidise the locals’ alcohol dependancies.

Belly won/negotiated the toss and we had a bat. True to form the early order got themselves out early on to let Macca and Dale score the bulk of the runs on a two paced track, with variable bounce. One cannot imagine that the groundsman would fancy scoring many himself on this track. Macca top scored with an impressive 70 odd, showing what value there is to be had if a club has a bottomless pit of coffers. Dale worked up an appetite with a languid 30+ and the tail wagged a bit to take us past 200, much to Scotty’s glee. He’s been fed up at 180’s in the past few weeks, which obviously has not allowed him to get a bowl.

the Hall Park connection. The tea interval was noteworthy for a couple of things. Dale got his requested plate of butterless sandwiches, and then joined the rest of us in enjoying the chips, YorkshiresAndy Bastow shows his face and sausage casserole. Wonderful fare. Dale also talked one of the younger Jesters into being a txt pest, and they made full use of the camera phone and MMS facility. Not sure how to put this to my usual family audience, but just like Tim Henman, Dale can always be relied upon to provide an unexpected ‘semi’ appearance.

The Idle innings started at a run a ball, or maybe that should be a bye a ball as Trevor Penney sprayed it everywhere, and Macca struggled with the variable bounce. If TP had a brain, he’d be dangerous. Then again, if he had a brain he’d be off to uni in September!!

Dan Holah tried to keep it tight at one end, and was rewarded when Belly took a sharp The skipper celebrates another catch in his own inimitable way.chance at gully. It was a time for bell ringing and hankie waving as the skipper did his Morris dancing celebration, and thought he’d got away with it.

Spin (slow bowling) was introduced and the required rate increased, before Scotty and Dale again, turned the match well away from the hosts. a fine pair of jugs

The premature introduction of the skipper having a bowl nearly lost us the game, as boundaries flowed, but Dobby did what he has so often not been asked to do in club cricket, and mopped up the tail. So it ended up as a Jesters win, played in good spirits, and with everybody playing a part. The final note must go to the tea ladies who did  the club proud, and will have the Jesters eagerly coming back for more of what was on offer. I’ll leave it to Scotty, who summed it up so well, “nice jugs”.
