report by DRB

Our 1st post tour match saw us travel to see old friends at Shelley. With the combination of Vinny in nexta dads v lads match overrunning on the ground & the threat of rain in the air it was decided a 30 overs per side match would be most appropriate.

With the Shelley eleven made up almost entirely from their 1st team the Jesters faced one of the strongest sides they havemeat & no veg! seen in quite some time & a faultless performance was required by the visitors to compete; unfortunately we did not provide it!   With the major contributions from Mark Harrison, Andrew Ross & Dale against the home side's second string bowlers we managed to reach a par score.

After a leisurely bar-b-q tea & the crowd building up (not sure why!) the Jesters took to the field. The Shelley batsmen, obviously under orders to play "a shot a ball" tucked into some "friendly" bowling from the lacklustre visitors. The fielding went from the sublime to the ridiculous with Vinny Jackson from the Otley club & on debut taking a stunning catch at mid-wicket but at least 6 chances been grassed with Rossy & Mel the most culpable.

The plus side of the early finish is the chance to socialise with our hosts for a bit longer & with Mel & Dale in the same team we are never short of entertainment!
