report by DRB
After a Sunday lunch at Dick Hudsons the
Jesters made their 1st visit to the fantastic
sports
arena at Bradford & Bingley. Groundsman sutty (of Rawdon fame) this year not
managing to cancel the fixture. With several players known to be turning up late
a vital toss was won but before you could say RL the man had missed his 1st
straight ball & Macca who was supposed to be batting at 5 was at the wicket in a
flash
(the delayed winterbottoms not yet padded up). The best partnership of the
innings ensued with both Macca & Matt McCallum batting entirely to script; Macca
a quick 30 & out & Matt a 30 in 2 hours. Nobody else made much of an impression
& we were bowled out with overs to spare with the late arrivals just making in
time to avoid us having to declare!!!!
After a terrific tea Joel Morley (aged 16)
decided he was the senior bowler & informed the
skipper
he wanted the bottom end (with the wind) but on reaching the square found the
wind had changed direction & wanted to swap with Ritchie (90 odd Jester caps).
To late said Bell, get on with it. Rich, bowling with the wind for a change took
advantage, making early inroads. Macca bored because he was not bowling decided
to keep wicket & swapped with future tour room mate McCallum before the skipper
had even noted.
Danny Appleton then had a go into the wind
after getting loose with numerous long leather chases to the boundry edge &
dismissed both set & looking dangerous batsmen. Dale managed to tidy things up
with a rare bowl with the skipper shamelessly moving himself around the field
chasing catches. Scottie, with the wind bowled an economical spell as some of
the young Bingley batsman, not having seen his like before were like "rabbitts
in headlights" blocking with great care his 10mph deliveries. With the last pair
at the crease young debutant Luke Wilson informed the captain he would like a
bowl & then proceeded to bowl his 1st ball when nobody was ready as the skipper
was still setting the field - quality.
