report by DRB

The 2008 season was finally kicked off with a visit to the ‘pictureskew’ Knaresborough Forest c.c. An the early birdsold custom was re-enacted with Sunday lunch taken in the adjacent Union hostelry before the game. When the rest of the players turned up it was disappointing to find theDobby in familiar surroundings opposition did not contain the old friend of the Jesters the fantastically nicknamed “sausage”.
After a negotiated toss the Jesters opening batsmen; Dobson’s, G & S (still no relation) plundered some early wayward bowling with a century stand in good time. Their respective 50s coming up in consecutive deliveries so quickly that we did not have chance to applaud them on reaching 49 as is our custom.
Everybody else who batted made runs in an imposing final total which was aided by numerous dropped catches by the home team.
all supporters welcomeThe excellent teas were provided by the union pub (a convenient arrangement) & the skippers plans to open the bowling ( a good idea before tea ) where hastily changed! other colours are available
Matt Hill made early inroads; he was particularly effective with leg stump line deliveries. Scottie  then helped himself to some “KFC”, describing his own performance as “finger spinning good”.
The ‘keystone cops’ moment came of Scotties bowling when a top edged pull went skywards equidistant between 4 fielders; Scottie, Mat McCallum, Stewart Dobson & Dave Bell; All 4, conscious of the catching competition called MINE. The resulting melee was more reminiscent of a rugby scrum with a cricket ball lying on the ground in the middle.
The skipper (chasing his target of 100 career wickets) moped up the last man in good time just as the rain began to fall.
