report by RL
After the debacle at Norcross the day before it was nice to turn up and see life at Thornton Cleveleys CC (“Cleveleys”) on Thursday. All talk before the game was of Dave’s (Thompson not Bell – ed ) exploits the previous evening. What goes on on tour stays on tour and this tale is no exception.
A negotiated toss ensured the Jesters would bat first with Dobson and Dobson opening the batting. The tour from hell continued for Dobson S as he was bowled for a duck giving Luke Webster the chance to bludgeon boundaries while Bell took Dobson S to school at boundary bowls. A rare opportunity for Pod offered him the chance to bat 4 and make his first 50 for the Jesters. Unfortunately it seemed Pod had a problem with the Stumping law and a solitary appeal from a Cleveleys fielder resulted in Coco raising his finger and received some verbals from Pod on his way back to the pavilion. Dale couldn’t win his bet with Luke either, after he failed to score more than the 39 Luke made. Even Matty who had batted slower than anyone in the history of the game on Tuesday achieved his target to score 25 not out in 7 overs set by the skipper.
Tea was delightful with homemade cakes and pies on offer. Many hands make light work and this was certainly the case with a team of 7 tea ladies running the show. We also took the opportunity at the interval to take a team photo; nobody could find Coco so he had to miss out.
The Cleveleys response was positive but amongst the overthrows, the wait for the racing results and the sulking from Macca desperate to take the gloves from Matty we picked up wickets at regular intervals with Dale taking 5 and depriving others of a bowl. Pod also took his first wickets for two years well pointed out by the skipper much to the amusement of the opposition. The jugs were out after the final wicket and it was nice to have a few beers to celebrate the victory.
