report by DRB
For all those who have attended a Jesters tour in the past they know that the skipper has only got 1 rule - he wants everybody in bed before breakfast! When I was sat reading the paper, awaiting breakfast at 8.45am & Ricky knocked on the window to let him in I thought he was very close to breaking that rule until I remembered that the bed in question does not necessarily have to be your own!!!!!!!!!
With only 7 players left standing drastic recruitment measures were required. 1st the skipper "poached" Vishy from the previous days opponents South Shore & then Jake played a masterstroke by persuading a couple of mates ( Chris & Alastair) from Harrogate who were over for the previous nights PDC darts at the Winter Gardens that turning out for the Jesters would be more fun (& less expensive) than a day spent on the pleasure beech! The fact that they had never played a game of cricket in their lives this (cricket mad) correspondent thinks is a sad reflection on the schools system!
Again a non-toss enabled us to take "advantage" of a pitch offering plenty of assistance to all bowlers. A classy 50 from Rossi & everybody else chipping in against a young & energetic opposition enabled us to reach a competitive score.
The youth-full home side struggled against the turning (Broughy, Vishy & Ricky) & seaming (Stu, Mel & Rossi) ball as the pitch deteriorated in the drying conditions & the skipper turning back the years with the keeping gloves.
And so incredibly, we went undefeated on what will always be known as the:-
