Report by DRB
With only 4 players doubling up
from the day before the side had a younger look & so you would have thought more
enthusiasm but the end of the season seems to brings an
air of apathy whoever is playing.
2 father & son combinations were
supposed to be playing but Phil Lines had to drop out for family reasons but he
kindly got young
Nick
Taylor from the Horsforth club to come & make his Jesters debut. The other
family members playing were the Winterbottoms & it was a joy to see Dale back
after recent ill health.
An inauspicious start to day
happened with Lee pulled over by the police on the way to the ground,
fortunately for him no charges were forthcoming.
We did however win the toss & so
have 1st use of the wicket on a gloriously hot & sunny late September
day. There were useful contributions from Lee Platts & Dan Holah but the main
innings came from Dale who tucked into some loose stuff from Peter Bone before
the MP for Wellingborough finally dismissed him. The loss of regular wickets
did however prevent us making a no more than par score.
Macca in a rare Jesters opening
bowling spell made the early breakthrough & shared a good opening partnership
with Alex Lines who is now nearing full recovery from a badly broken leg at the
start of the season. The arrival at the wicket of “sensitive” Cambridge Meths
no3 batsman N. Twells caused much amusement as he took exception to Dale’s
“playful banter” & his over reaction just encouraged Dale to carry on. The 1st
5 bowlers used all bowled tight, accurate spells & chipped away with wickets to
have the home side at 83-7. Nick bowled well & took the prized wicket of ex
Jester Steve Bindman, Macca had earlier had an easy opportunity to run him out
but felt this would have denied someone the opportunity of an easy wicket! At
this point the skipper thought the game was won & decided it was time to give
everyone a bowl but the Olicanians
overseas
guest player E. Brown had been hanging around, playing himself in & at this
moment decided to hit out, slogging everyone to bring up rapidly his own century
& his team a victory. James Ford the excellent Beckwithshaw wicket keeper had
been nagging me all day for a chance to show off his bowling skills; after
seeing a 2 over spell my advise to him is keep concentrating on his wicket
keeping!
It would appear that part of
Macca’s contract at Blubberhouses is to recruit new players for next year
because at the fall of each wicket he was inviting players to join his
Nodderdale league club, it was pointed out that there was not much space left
there because of the amount of room that his ego was taking up!!!!
Catching competition final score:-
