Peter
Hall, just returned from a spell in the former soviet block opened the batting
with fellow Olicanian & debutant James Hudson & a 50 opening stand (all leg
side) represented a good start. Alex Lines playing for the 1st time without
father Phil who declared himself unavailable due to 'age unfitness' but who has
had his son in a grow bag all winter (up 3 shoe sizes in one afternoon in
December apparently) shared an entertaining stand with the ever elegant Chris
Boden.
With overs running out the experienced middle order, all eager to get lower in
the order came & went swiftly including Moggy, dismissed by a cunning 10 year
old; We now know where we went wrong all those times he played against us &
never failed! A couple of Matt Hill leg-glances & later when fielding dives over
the ball reminded us of absent fathers. A late flourish from skipper Bell &
Kirkheaton representative
Andy
Gray took the score past the 200 mark. A late goodwill gesture from the skipper
letting in veteran spinner Scott for yet another red-inker & helping him in his
quest to catch Mr. nasty in that category in the annals.
The Jesters yet
again fell for the old mistake of over-indulgence with the sausages & chips on
offer at tea. (School boy error)
The Idle reply
scorecard shows that it was dominated statically by Gavin Lyons but it does not
tell the full story of how well the many youngsters batted, especially against
the wiles of poppodom fingers Waite & Scottie. Wickets were taken just regularly
enough for Idle to slip behind the required run-rate. With some noted excellent
fielders in the Jesters side some good catches were taken particularly by James
Hudson & 3 by Andy Gray but to equalize that & to show that some things never
change veterans Bell & Scott both managed to drop 1 each!
