On a drizzly afternoon 2 cricket starved teams decided conditions were good enough for a 30 overs a side game.
As is usually the case the Jesters batted 1st; Ritchie took his place in the score box where he could keep in touch with heavily pregnant wife Lindsay.
Captain & vice-captain Bell & Waite umpired, the former continued showing his good Saturday form in struggling to count to 6.
Always a fan of contrasting opening batting styles the Jesters opened
with Carl (daft as a brush) Harrison & Alan (I haven’t played for 2 years) Hall, the latter looking like he hadn't batted for 2 years.
The Idle team, consisting of familiar old faces & promising juniors, suffered at the hands of the Jesters big batting 3. Macca managed to get rid of Carl but when the former was asked to retire on 50 to give others an opportunity his response caused some confusion as to weather the skipper should suck on his left or right testicle!!!
Dale continued to smash the wet ball to all parts as cars had to be moved to avoid denting, both
batsmen reached maiden Jester tons just before the close; the 1st time twin centuries have been scored for the Jesters since 1999.
A gut splitting tea of sausages, chips & beans, steak Canadian sarnies & fruit (for those watching their figure) was thoroughly enjoyed by both teams. We don't actually need this much encouragement to field badly!!
The rain continued as Ritchie (with phone in pocket) & Kirkheaton promising young debutant Aiden both picked up an early wicket. The new spin twins also picked up a
couple, that is Neil did as Pod continued to remain wicket-less in the Jesters 2007 season (funnily I've not read any mention of that fact in his blog).
Unlike the Jesters all the Idle lads got a bat with the late flurry of wickets from swinging bats gratefully received from Calverley debutant Daniel & the skipper; the former actually making his debut in the same game as his father John, a rare occurrence!
Retirement to the warm & dry bar to reminisce with old friends with a drink was as ever just as much pleasure as the playing of the game.
