After a few years gap the Jesters returned to South Shore, after dumping Norcross for last morning ground inspectionyears' no-show. A full day on the beer the day before didn't help, and selection 'issues' meant the Dobson twins had nipped off to the arrers for the afternoon. Heavy rain in the morning cleared away and we were left with a cold and blustery day, similar to our last visit I seem to recall, in 1993. A guess that most of the home team were in prams for that occasion. Coco must've been ruing not playing.

Bell won/negotiated the toss and we had a bat on a bowler friendly surface. Ives got off to a quick start, but with the confidence and approach of a man who bats most weeks, gave it away. If he's going to take the next step up from where he plays league cricket at Barnsley, into the England test team, he must learn to value his wicket more. At the other end Podtraining top for him? struggled to score, but adjudged the track as a 160 wicket, and concentrated on getting the Jesters to that total, rather than trusting the sloggers to get us there. Going into the final 10 overs with wickets in the tent was all important as Cowburn bowled out his overs in miserly fashion. Macca had been champing at the bit to get into the middle all afternoon, and predictably once there, new playing topfaced 9 balls and came back. Apparently it's the way he plays ( and why he is now the only pro in the Nodderdale league). Browny finished the innings off with a flurry, as wickets tumbled late on, but we all had a bat, so we were all happy.

A great tea was taken at leisure before we decided to get on with it, as half the team were due at the darts for 7.00 p.m.

The Rawdon pairing of Brown & Thomson opened up and Dave soon had the batters in trouble and snaffled a couple of wickets, with F.M. Engineer being fondly remembered after the second. Interestingly Farohk turned out for the snappily titled Maharashtra Small Savings Minister's and Life Insurance Company's Chairman's Combined XI in the 1965/66 season. I'd like to have seen the Barmy Army come up with a chant for them.good to see the familt Tempest.

With a couple of real batters now at the crease the hosts got to half way at drinks, when Belly turned to his trump card, in the shape of Trevor Penney. Having thrown up in the nightclub and the hotel the night before was no hindrance as he ripped through the middle order and Tank joined in by giving a couple of dodgy LBWs and a caught behind. Like father, like son eh? Miami joined in with his medium pace and felt the need to sledge the opposition. One wonders if he'd prefer another blank fixture next year? The innings was wrapped up in good time at 6.30 and we had time for a pint before scarpering.

Darts was a little disappointing as we missed the first game (Barney), and the second and third were both non-contests, however The Power was fairly awesome.

The group rendezvoused back in Roxy's before splinter groups went their separate ways. The night finished in disturbing fashion as Coco commented that he much preferred the DJ from the night before, who was quite pretty, and had made an effort, where as tonight's was just a fat bloke in a frock. Time to go Coco, time to go.
