report by DRB
Just the 6 made breakfast & the usual tales of debauchery were recalled, most of them involving the 64 years young Mel!
With the Burley pair already home & the departed Eammon we were reinforced by Joel Morley & Matt Grindley from the St Annes club. The home club again gave us choice of innings & as usual we need no 2nd invitation to bat 1st on any pitch. With all the batsmen throwing caution to the wind & fortune favouring us we run up a huge total; Even genuine no 11 (batting at a career high no 9) Joel managed to get into double figures! Half way through the innings a face from the (recent) past rolled up at the ground; Jesters leg-end Scottie had done a Dave Nichols & just "popped out for a paper" in Blackpool. He's still insisting he is retired & turned down the opportunity of making his 300th appearance!
After a lengthy spell from the newly consistent (opening bowler) Broughy, the skipper was able to give nearly everybody a bowl, again the fielding was high quality (most un-Jester like on the 2nd day of a tour) particularly a stunning catch in the covers by Rossi who was also a bit peeved to end up as the only outfielder not to get a bowl - maybe tomorrow Andrew - keep loose!
ps - Ricky, perhaps not used to been out of the Wharfe valley seems to be mentally struggling to acclimatise, having to enquire how Stu Smith could not find the train station in the morning (giving Eammon a lift) when it is next to the cricket ground. Rickly, that train station next to the ground is an airport!
It was down to 7 wheels on our wagon (but we will roll on) as the Morley brothers headed home, Joel back to work & Ben to represent his county. Moral was boosted when the skippers phone rang at 9pm & it was Dale announcing that he was just setting off to Blackpool for 1 night only.
