report by DRB
On a glorious sunny afternoon the Jesters started their 2005
fixtures with a trip to the stunning Sewerby park (Bridlington). After brief
negotiations it was decided that we would bat first. 2 of the large Rawdon C.C.
contingent opened, scoring at a fast rate on a fantastic pitch (pace, bounce &
movement for good bowlers). A mighty Windle 6 stopping just 10 yards short of
the North sea. On reaching 50s both men hit out, Mark
managing to get out Simon Wilson didn’t; going on to become the 2nd
Jester to make a debut century (After Ian "Lloydey" Wightman). Heppi controlled the rest of the inning,
reaching his 50 from a last ball 6 for yet another red-inker.
After
the usual “gut-busting” tea the Jesters took to the field to find wickets as
hard to come by as the Sewerby team. A “fiery” opening spell from Stuart Dobson
did not perhaps get its just reward with a no-ball wicket & dropped catches, one
rapid slip chance going to Ian Vinall who was just as happy to survive it as the
batsman!
Scottie then took over at the
top end bowing through to the end & buying 4 wickets whilst just short of
bringing up his 100! A mixture of bowlers were tried at the bottom end, the best
of which was Viners, closing the
run
fest out despite a massive six & some “discussion” with the umpire about giving
last over wides.
Thanks to all those who made
the 150ish mile round trip especially Graham Boden helping to make up 11 with
his 1st donning of the whites in 4 years.
